CD duplication vs. CD replication…

Is there a difference? Yes.

Duplication – Reserved primarily for short run (less than 1000 piece) orders. CD’s are burned and then the disc face is printed using Everest thermal technologies or upon occassion on an offset press.

Replication – The automated process by which CD’s are injection molded into the negative of a “glass master”. The CD face is then printed using either a silk screen or offset press.

In either case, most print and packaging materials are assembled automatically saving time and cost. Finally, discs are wrapped in plastic “folded wrap”, also referred to as shrink wrap.

Note: Because of inherent imperfections in any automated manufacturing process, there is the possibility of 5% over or under run, this is dependent upon how many discs are weeded out in the quality control process.
